Portal
Development, Administration and Hosting
PROSOFT
has harnessed the power and collaborative capabilities
of web portals for its own internal processes and for
the requirements and benefits of its customers. We have
leveraged Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) products such
as Microsoft SharePoint Portal and SharePoint Web Services
for our own Intranet site. There we host over 60 production
project sites and 100+ personal ("My Site")
sites. Several of the production sites are customer
accessible where external users have been granted access
to collaborate. Users are configured with "contributor"
privileges to post, review, author and edit project documents.
The version control and check-in/out capability allow
for controlled document management and document assurance.
Additional collaboration features and functions are:
executable .NET applications, alerts, workflow and threaded
discussions or blogs. All privileges, access and activities
function within the security perimeter set up by our
portal administrators. A few examples of our customer portals are:
- Defense Information System Network – Video Services (DVS)
- U.S. Navy NSW Combatant Craft Division
- U.S. Army Transportation Corps (CASCOM)
- U.S. Army Systems Approach to Training (SATS)
- U.S. Marine Corps Distance Learning (MCDL)
- Virginia Department of Social Services
IWe have developed customized portal
products such as the U.S. Joint Forces Command (JFCOM)
web portal, hosted at the customer location. This portal
is a command-wide supported initiative which enables
departments (or J-codes, such as J-6, J-7, J-9, etc.)
to have their own portal sub-sites under the larger
JFCOM site umbrella. In order to maintain best practices,
PROSOFT has enlisted the help of advocates that go between
J-codes and the development and administration staff.
The payoff is customization with user buy-in and ownership
and control over functionality affecting scalability
and enterprise level processing. In order to develop
this customized project and others, PROSOFT has leveraged
the following tools, languages and technologies:
